For Rural Schools (England) is a BBC schools radio series from the 1940s, covering geography for primary and secondary school pupils.

  • Replacing earlier individual series such as Discovering England, Our Country, Our Village and Our Parish
  • A series called Let's Build a House had been planned for 1939-40, but was abandoned on the outbreak of war and replaced with general series For Rural Schools, particularly aimed at city children evacuated to the countryside.
  • The autumn 1939 unit was called Living in the Country (not to be confused with the later series of the same name.
  • Other units include Our Changing Country-side, Country Work and Country Ways, and Our Village in Wartime, a sequel to the 1937 series Our Village
  • From 1943 until (at least) 1948 programmes were based around the fictional English village of Dylsford, and the children in the Dylsford School Explorers' Club.
  • There was a separate For Rural Schools series for Scotland
