The Artist in the Modern World is an ITV schools TV series from the 1950s, covering art for further education students.

  • Associated-Rediffusion's first series for sixth forms - presented in the same term that Granada Television introduced Discovery for the same audience
  • looking at artists at work, in fields such as painting, architecture, theatre and film
  • beginning with an episode presented by Sir Kenneth Clark discussing the general aims of the series - which found many school viewers out of their depth!
