Treffpunkt: Österreich
Treffpunkt: Österreich is a German-language BBC schools TV series from the 1980s, covering German Language for secondary school pupils.
A series of documentaries about contemporary teenagers and adults in various interesting pursuits, such as a mountain rescue mission for young climbers, making a radio show about a soap box derby, and taking part in the World Bodybuilding Championships.
The programmes are designed for students in their 2nd or 3rd year of learning German, studying towards the (new at the time of broadcast) GCSE examinations.
Treffpunkt: Österreich is part of a sequence of paired BBC schools series looking at the language and social studies of a particular country. The sequence started in 1977 with Treffpunkt: Deutschland and Encounter: Germany, which this series replaced in the study of German.
It is accompanied by the English-language series Encounter: Austria, drawing on the same subjects and interviews.
It is also accompanied by the new, advanced series A Level German, which also covered the World Bodybuilding Championships in Graz
.
The 1985-86 BBC annual programme catalogues had previewed an alternative new German series to be called Treffpunkt: DDR, accomapnied in English by Encounter: East Germany, which the BBC "hoped" to produce that year. Clearly this did not prove possible and this series based in Austria was made instead.

Book
Longman had intended to publish a book to accompany Treffpunkt: Österreich and Mach's Gut!, but I believe the book wasn't released until 1990, after broadcasts of Treffpunkt: Österreich had finished.
