Stop, Look, ListenHierarchyPrevious.gifPrevious year: 1986-87Next year: 1988-89HierarchyNext.gif

Details of 1987-88 broadcasts of the ITV Schools series Stop, Look, Listen, covering topics for primary school pupils.

There were 10 new episodes spread across the three terms of this year. With ITV Schools programmes now broadcast on Channel 4 and S4C rather than ITV, Stop, Look, Listen was returned to a single set of 28 programmes broadcast in a year, with the other 28 (which had been broadcast as 'Set B' for the previous four years) to be broadcast in the following year instead, making a true two-year cycle.

These episodes used the traffic light face opening titles and the High Life theme tune.

1987-88 was the 12th of 26 years of new broadcasts, and the 17th of 38 years overall, for Stop, Look, Listen.

10 of the 28 episodes broadcast this year were new, and the episodes first broadcast this year were repeated until 1992.

* - The episode Day Trip was actually billed as Museum of Childhood this year, perhaps to distinguish it from the new episode about a Day Trip to France. TV Times Magazine described it as "children visit Quarry Bank Mill", which is actually a description of the earlier episodes History Museum, but I believe it was indeed the episode Day Trip, about a visit to Sudbury Hall, that was shown in accordance with the teacher's notes and annual programme guide. If you can confirm for sure one way or the other please get in touch by email.

** - The episode Flower Festival was actually billed as Carnival this year, but a separate Carnival episode, about the Notting Hill Carnival, was added in 1991.

4. Baker (1987)

Different types of bread are seen in a shop display. Traditional bread-making is shown at the Black Country Living MuseumViolet-marker.png. The baker fires up the oven, mixes and kneads the dough and forms it into loaves. After they have been cooked by the hot bricks of the oven the loaves are put into baskets and the baker's boy takes them to nearby houses.

Modern commercial bread-baking is also seen, with loaves being sliced and wrapped by machine.
