Details of 1978-79 broadcasts of the ITV Schools series Stop, Look, Listen, covering Stimulus,Topics for primary school pupils.

10 new episodes were shown this year, a selection of re-made programmes on previously-covered topics and completely new subjects. As well as the new episodes listed below there was some re-arrangement of existing episodes, as the Farm episode was moved from the summer term sequence of programmes about trips & visits to the autumn term sequence about people who help us, renamed Farmer to suit, while the Fairground episode made the reverse switch.

This year's episodes included on-screen titles stating their subject right at the start of each film, the only time in the documentary era of Stop, Look Listen that on-screen titles were used.

These episodes introduced the flying words opening titles and used the High Life theme tune for the first time.

1978-79 was the 3rd of 26 years of new broadcasts, and the 8th of 38 years overall, for Stop, Look, Listen.

10 of the 28 episodes broadcast this year were new, and the episodes first broadcast this year were repeated until 1991.

2. Coalminer

An old couple who still have a coal fire introduce the idea that at one time everybody used coal in their houses, and it had to be mined. A group of miners are seen arriving for work at a pit by coach, changing into their dark-coloured work overalls, collecting their equipment, and handing in a tally to record who is down the mine. They descend in the cage and travel to the coal face in a small train to start drilling.

Later the miners return to the surface, shower and change back into their normal clothes. Meanwhile the coal is collected and delivered by the coalman to the old couple's home.
