Scene: In Spite of their Deafness
In Spite of their Deafness is an episode of the BBC schools TV series Scene from the 1970s and 1980s, covering citizenship for secondary school pupils.
Documentary about the Shine family - mum, dad, 12 year-old son and 17 year-old daughter - who are all profoundly deaf and have speech difficulties. The adults have normal jobs, and the children are at school and college. The programme shows how they communicate amongst themselves and with other people.
