Satellites Francais cover summer 1993.jpg

Satellites Français is a French-language BBC schools radio series from the 1990s, covering French Language for secondary school pupils.

A series of reading books for young teenagers, published as books and read on the radio to help pupils follow along and hear the sound of the words.

The Satellites books are a mix of original stories, adaptations, and - to offer a different experience of language, alliteration and so on - poetry collections.

The stories are arranged into three levels of increasing complexity, designed to accompany the first three years of the Étoiles ("Stars") language course produced by the BBC and the publisher Longman.

A 4-page folded booklet of teacher's notes (pictured above) described each of the stories and suggested how to use them.

Each story was published as a 16-page, colour illustrated reading book, available to schools as a package for £35. Scans of several of these books can be consulted in the Internet Achive library books to borrow collection.

The readings were also published in a set of three audio cassettes, available to schools for £22.95.
