Landmarks: Transport
Transport is a unit of the BBC Schools TV series Landmarks from the 1990s, covering geography for primary school pupils.
A look at the history and development of means of transport in the UK.
This unit originally consisted of three programmes on road, water and rail transport, first shown in the series Now and Then in summer 1987. Those three original programmes were repeated as part of Landmarks in spring 1989, just as other Now and Then films were also repeated in Landmarks during 1988-89 including units on Changing Landscapes and Holidays.
In summer 1992 Landmarks presented an expanded unit on Transport, bringing together the original three programmes from 1987, plus a new episode on the history of canals, and a re-made version of a programme called All Change at the Docks which had been first shown on Now and Then in 1986 and then repeated as part of Landmarks' Changing Landscapes unit in 1988. The term was completed with two programmes on holidays which originated on Now and Then in 1987 and had also been repeated as a standalone unit on Landmarks in summer 1989.
The two new programmes were repeated in summer 1994, and three of the historical programmes were shown one more time in summer 1996.
Episode List
This page may look slightly, and unnecessarily, complicated. This Landmarks unit originally consisted purely of repeats from another series, which wouldn't normally warrant a page on this site, the programmes would just be covered within the series where they originated. After a few years some new episodes were made as part of this unit, and it's those new episodes which are supposed to be the focus here, with the repeats covered to show how the new ones fit in.
