Landmarks: Buildings and Builders
Buildings and Builders is a unit of the BBC Schools TV series Landmarks from the 1990s, covering history and geography for primary school pupils.
Programmes about the building materials wood, brick and concrete, from the perspective (in different programmes) of their historical development by humans, and also their environmental impact.
The historical episodes (The Age of Wood etc) had oiginally been shown on Now and Then in 1986, and the environmental programmes (Timber etc) had originally been shown on Near and Far in 1984, both as part of units called Builders and Buildings - the two parts of the title the other way round than Buildings and Builders - the latter was used by Landmarks from 1991 onwards. Landmarks brought both types of programmes together for repeats from 1988.
In 1991 three additional episodes were added, one covering the material Stone, historically and in current use in the Peak District.
Two other episodes shown in 1991 (and never again after that) cover the construction of a Welsh castle and a French cathedral through animated films, imported from the USA and based on well-known children's books by the architect David Macaulay.
