History in Action is an ITV and later Channel 4 schools TV series from the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s, covering history for secondary school pupils.

  • originally a Granada documentary series using film footage and investigative journalism techniques to apply the format of the "World in Action" documentary series to school history
  • later a variety of history units on Channel 4 Schools:
    • Hypotheticals (spring 1994)
    • The Wild West (summer 1995), an American documentary series in six 50-minute episodes
    • Film Century (spring 1997)
    • Heroes or Villains (spring 1998)
    • The Luttrell Psalter (spring 1998)
    • The Home Front Through Home Movies (summer 1998)
    • Stories in Stone (spring 1999)
    • Women in the 20th Century (autumn 1999)
    • Weapons of War (autumn 1999 & summer 2001)
    • Letters from the Trenches (autumn 1999)
    • Race in the 20th Century (autumn 1999)
    • What the Papers Said (spring 2000), 10-minute episodes
