Judge for Yourselves is an ITV schools TV series from the 1950s, covering Media for secondary school pupils.

  • encouraging children to look critically at the mass media, newspapers, film, television, and especially advertising
  • subject to major controversy in 1957 and 1958 in relation to the provision in the Television Act that programmes must preserve impartiality in matters of public policy - staff at the Independent Television Authority and Associated-Rediffusion suspected that the programme may fall foul of these rules and altered the programme content without consulting their educational advisors
  • a very similar controversy enveloped the Thames Television schools series Viewpoint almost 20 years later, when concerns about impartiality again caused the company management and the broadcasting authority to intervene in the content of the programmes
