Preparing a Play is a unit of the ITV schools TV series Drama (ITV) from the 1960s and 1970s, covering Drama for secondary school pupils.

  • five programmes following a repertory company rehearsing and performing Twelfth Night, as it may have been presented in Shakespeare's time, introduced by Mike Hall
  • two programmes looking at the production of an original Television play, introduced by Redvers Kyle, and a three-part presentation of the play itself - A Change of Climate by Martin Worth
  • all ten programmes were shown in Autumn 1966, and the first five were repeated in Autumn 1970
  • Twelfth Night was previously covered in ITV's Drama series in 1958
  • there had previously been programmes in Preparing a Play in the Drama units on Played Upon a Stage and Arms and the Man
